Phototherapy with UV lights is a common treatment for newborn hyperbilirubinemia. Place the baby under the lights wearing only a diaper, protect the baby's eyes with a mask, turn them every 2 hours, monitor their temperature, assess for signs of dehydration, and avoid applying any lotions or creams to the infant due to the risk for burns.
