Prior to initiating hemodialysis, auscultate their arteriovenous fistula for a bruit and palpate for a thrill. Obtain their vital signs, pre-dialysis labs, and weight. Assess their weight at the conclusion of dialysis as well to estimate the volume of fluid removed.
