Heel Stick Procedure: Infants

Prior to performing a heel stick procedure on an infant, warm the newborn's heel to increase blood circulation.
Prior to performing a heel stick procedure on an infant, warm the newborn's heel to increase blood circulation. Use a spring-activated lancet to puncture the medial or lateral portion of the plantar surface of the heel. Avoid puncturing the central portion of the heel!
