The US Drug Schedule is used to identify a substance's risk for abuse. The schedule uses categories I, II, III, IV, and V. Category I has the highest risk of abuse (e.g., heroin, LSD) while Category V has the lowest risk for abuse (e.g., cough medications with codeine).
