Selecting a Vein for IV Therapy

When selecting a vein for IV therapy, it is best to choose a distal vein on the non-dominant hand. Be sure to avoid veins in areas of flexion (e.g., the wrist or antecubital fossa) when possible, and avoid veins in the hands of older patients.
