Newborn hypoglycemia is marked by a serum glucose < 40 mg/dL within the first 4 hours of life, or < 45 mg/dL between 4 - 24 hours of life. Assess the capillary blood glucose in any infant displaying signs of poor feeding, jitteriness, a weak cry, flaccid muscle tone, seizures, or lethargy.
