Lead Poisoning

A serum lead level > 5 mcg/dL should be considered positive for lead poisoning, however chelation therapy is not initiated until the serum level reaches > 45 mcg/dL.

Educate parents to wet-mop floors in their home, check for peeling/chipping paint, and increase the child's intake of calcium and iron to decrease lead absorption!
