With cirrhosis, a patient has experienced extensive degeneration, destruction, and fibrosis (scarring) of the liver. Because of this, elevated liver enzymes (ALT, AST), bilirubin, and ammonia are expected, along with decreased albumin, RBCs, Hgb/Hct, and platelets.
